“If you were to plot a map, based on the artists represented by Earth Recordings, you would – somewhat appropriately – be sticking pins all over the globe. From the madcap antipodean psychedelia of Howard Eynon (and indeed his Spectangle Studios peer, Steve Warner) to the pastoral prog of Trader Horne, by way of Russia’s own ‘Soviet Serge’ (the composer Mikael Tariverdiev), our label is nothing if not an international affair. Bert Jansch is a name everyone will be familiar with, though the songs of his offered here are some of his lesser known, more experimental works, with the track from his ornithologically themed ‘Avocet’ being the height of that. Add to that a handful of contemporary versions of songs made famous by the first lady of folk, Shirley Collins (from our ‘Shirley Inspired’ compilation of last year) and yet more Judy Dyble (also of Fairport Convention fame, amongst others!) and you get a pretty good idea of what Earth is all about… Tuck in.”
