Doek Festival: Doek meets Tri-Centric

Zaal100 en Bimhuis, Amsterdam

20/17

Doek meets Tri-Centric Foundation: a unique meeting of two important musician’s collectives. The Tri-Centric Foundation, from New York, supports the formidable legacy and on-going work of Anthony Braxton, still inspiring and mentoring a new generation of musicians. Doek collective, a key player in the Amsterdam improvisation scene, operates as a thriving platform for exchange, experiment and performance. The festival will focus on two key figures in the combined world of composed and improvised music – Anthony Braxton, who celebrates his 70th birthday during the festival, and Misha Mengelberg who turns 80 two days later. Over a period of six days a pool of 20 musicians will meet and play in varying line-ups in diverse Amsterdam venues. There will be performances of Braxton’s large scale of works, improvisations by ad hoc ensembles, interpretations of Mengelberg pieces and newly commissioned works from Doek musicians.
