Niet elke band die opgericht werd in een vluchtelingenkamp weet zulke internationale tongen los te maken als Tinariwen, de Malinees-Berberse band rond spilfiguur Ibrahim Ag Alhabib. Dit jaar komt de band met hun nieuwste project ‘Amadjar’ op de proppen, alweer een aardig staaltje woestijnblues gepeperd met westerse pop- en rockgeluiden. Waar de band twee jaar geleden op ‘Elwan’ grote namen als Kurt Vile, Matt Sweeney en Mark Lanegan kon strikken, komt de band ook nu weer op de proppen met een rist interessante gastmuzikanten. Onder andere Cass McCombs, Warren Ellis, Stephen O’ Malley en Noura Mint Seymali drukken hun stempel op de alweer door Patrick Votan geproduceerde plaat. Opnieuw ademt ‘Amadjar’ de authenticiteit uit van het traditionele Berberse nomadenvolk.
